What’s so Dang Funny about RespOrg?

By Rick Douthit

I was recently told that I could find the humor in anything. This got me thinking; what’s the least humorous subject EVER? I think I may have found it: “RespOrg”.

First of all, out of the 6,692,030,277 people in the world, there are only six who even know what a RespOrg is, and two of them are mentally ill. One of the people that know what a RespOrg is is my boss, Aelea Christofferson. If you do the math, that gives her a 33% chance of being mentally ill. But that’s a topic for another discussion.

Let’s examine the word itself (say it out loud) RespOrg. Not very pretty sounding eh? I’m pretty certain the first fight I ever got in was because some nit-wit called me a RespOrg. Neither of us had a clue what it meant (still don’t) but we were sure it wasn’t nice. The Civil War was started because someone from the South called someone from the North a RespOrg.

I need to make this post informative (Aelea has a thing about that) so I looked RespOrg up for you. It’s actually the marriage of two words; Responsible Organization. Get it? Me either. Here, you’re taking part of an adjective, and part of a noun, and creating a proper noun. That violates several state and federal laws, and whoever did this needs to do hard time in the slammer.

Responsible Organization. Shouldn’t we give the RespOrg label to Congress? I guess not, but that made me think of a more appropriate word for them: IrrespOrg.

So what exactly is a RespOrg so proudly responsible for? Global warming? Crunchy peanut butter? You can’t tell by the name that’s for sure!

I’d really like to explain it to you, but there’s that whole mental illness thing.

Love the RespOrg article….so really…what does a RespOrg do? Can you explain what makes ATL as a indenedant RespOrg better than any old regular RespOrg?

  2. Esther says:

I work for ATL, so I can tell you that we do multi-carrier and least-cost routing, plus our customer service is excellent.

  3. Rick Douthit says:

Why is an independent better than other RespOrg options? Since ATL is not a carrier of any kind our clients have full control over the routing of their numbers. If you want to split traffic between two or more carriers for disaster recovery or least cost routing ATL can do that in minutes and we won’t hassle you, because we don’t make any money on traffic.
If you are a carrier (IP or landline) or a reseller, ask your current RespOrg how fast they port numbers – or maybe you know from experience. How about 86% in 48 hours and 96% within 72 hours. That ATL’s stats last quarter. We don’t depend on automated systems to accomplish that. We have people who physically call the RespOrg with late releases and say, “so what’s going on?” Your allotted 48 hour release time established in the RespOrg rules say you’re late.” Our clients get their revenue flowing faster.

A RespOrg manages routing records for toll free numbers in the 800 Service Management System. All toll free number in this country operate from that system.

Keep asking questions. We have the answer.
